icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Study Nurse under Nutrition and Clinical Services Division. The appointment will be made on a short-term contractual service agreement (CSA) basis for 3 months which is renewable depending on the performance and availability of funds.
Synbiotics for the Early Prevention of Severe Infections in Infants or SEPSiS Study is an adaptive clinical trial research platform funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). The platform is conducting a series of observational studies and soon will implement a series of interventional studies to test the efficacy of probiotics/synbiotics or other interventions preventing severe infections in early infancy. The Study Nurse (SN) will report to the Project Research Manager (PRM). The Study Nurse needs to screen potential participants from the facility, collect baseline data, and do biological sample collection. The position also requires clinical knowledge to deal with sick infant study participants. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:
Duties and responsibilities:
Screening and Enrolment:
Screen all mothers delivered at study hospitals;
Approach for verbal consent to the provisionally eligible mothers considering inclusion and exclusion criteria;
Facilitate the consenting process by the study medical officers.
Collect data on baseline study nurse; collect data on baseline household characteristics data;
Collect data on baseline hospital discharge;
Perform anthropometric data collection of infants and parents; paternal consent collection;
Check all types of equipment and validate those daily before using.
Motivate mothers to collect baseline biological samples from their infants;
Motivates mothers to give their biological samples; collect baseline stool, nasal swab, oral swab, and skin swab from the infant participants;
Collect vaginal swab and baseline stool and breast milk samples from the mothers;
Collect urine, stool, and a nasal swab from sick infant participants.
Required experience and qualifications:
Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery with good academic records and valid registration from Bangladesh Nursing Council.
One-year experience in relevant field.

**The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.
Salary: Monthly Tk. 30,100 / -inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits.
